"Navigation Information on CD" is 657 MG of information on a single CD, formatted in Adobe, that contains: all nine United States COAST PILOTS, all thirty-seven SAILING DIRECTIONS (enroute), all five SAILING DIRECTIONS (planning), Chart No.1-Chart symbols & abbreviations, Six volumes of Sight Reduction Tables for Marine Navigation 00 degrees through 90 degrees along with a PC computer based calculator to determine Hc and Azimuth, chart for Magnetic Variation for the world, and The American Practical Navigator by Bowditch complete with all tables. The CD contains over 12,000 pages of information.

Coast Pilots and Sailing Directions do not replace charts, but rather augment the information on the printed charts. The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency states, "Sailing Directions include detailed coastal and port approach information which supplements the largest scale charts…. Sailing Directions (cover) the harbors, coasts, and waters of the world, provide information that cannot be shown graphically on nautical charts and is not readily available elsewhere." Large yachts, and ocean going commercial vessels have always had this information onboard on paper in numerous volumes. Now it is available on one CD; easily stored, all volumes, all of the world.

Each of the COAST PILOTS and SAILING DIRECTIONS cost thirty dollars in printed form. Just the forty-six volumes of PILOTS AND DIRECTIONS included on the CD replace over fourteen hundred dollars ($1,400) in navigation reference material. Beyond that where would you store all the printed material, and keep them dry? The CD slips easily in the navigation desk.

The CD also includes all six Sight Reduction Tables for Marine Navigation, but better than the tables is the calculator included. Enter LHA, declination and latitude and the spreadsheet calculates Hc and Azimuth. Keep your paper volumes as a back up.
